Loch Lomond Park - Inspire your mind

Me posing on the banks of Loch LomondI know that I mentioned writing about the Falkirk Wheel and so on in my last bloglet, but having experienced yesterday Loch Lomond Park and one of the most stunning drives I've ever been on in the surrounding areas there, I couldn't stop myself uploading a new page about it instead.

Have a read about what's widely understood as being Scotland's most spectacular tourist destination, and learn why even though strictly speaking it's not in Glasgow, it more than deserves a mention on my site.

There's some great photos on there as well and in time I hope to return and slap up some more for you to enjoy.

Now everyone together, 1,2,3 - On the bonnie bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond...

Conquering Ben Nevis

View from Ben NevisJust wanted to shout out a huge congratulations to my mum and dad, having received a call from them yesterday as they stood at the top of the mighty Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain.

Particular mention goes to my mum, having decided wearily at one point that she'd just gone far enough, but then having resolutely pulled her wee frame up and marched her way that last few steps up to the summit.

Very proud of both of them, and I'm sure they'll have enjoyed a few tantalising drinks once they made their way back down to sea level. It brings me back to the time Tracey and I ventured up the Ben (my legs are still recovering...), and if you'll be using Glasgow as a base for some walking tours in Scotland this summer, I'd thoroughly recommend that you give it a try. Just make sure you're fully prepared, and if you do manage to the top, I guarantee you'll never forget the view.

As for the mountainous task of completing my site, in the next few weeks I hope to complete a wee review of the Falkirk Wheel, which is one of the best attractions in Scotland for families to visit, less than 30 minutes drive from Glasgow, and I'll also be doing my next restaurant review soon and continuing to develop the new zarraFAC ezine. I may even be able to cram in something on the Gallery of Modern Art which I visited again recently.

Thanks for your messages in the meantime asking about things to do in Glasgow this summer, and I'd suggest more generally that you have a look at my what's on events guide and let me know if there's anything more specific you're looking to do. The City really has been buzzing with the summer festivals this year, including a new one in the Southside which will hopefully be repeated next time, and the weather's not been too bad either - I've actually got the faint beginnings of a tan - I mean, who'd have thunk it?

So I hope you continue to enjoy your summer, and I'll keep trying to shoehorn some extra time into those almost transparent cracks in my diary to inject even more life into the site (my initial hope that the end of the football season would allow me more spare time is now merely a distant, mocking memory). Again, I can't thank you all enough for the messages of support and appreciation for what I'm trying to do here, as it really does spur me out of my lazy (or otherwise drunken) stupor.

Oscars Restaurant Newton Mearns Glasgow

Calling Jim Mcgregor...

Jim, many thanks for sending me your review for Oscars in Ayr Road (I totally agree it's a great place), but unfortunately you must have submitted the review before completing it, as I've only received the first sentence of it and I don't have your email address to ask you for the rest so hopefully you'll read this.

If you've a spare moment, I'd be pleased if you could send me it again, perhaps with a photo of the place as well, and I'd be happy to get your review up on my site as soon as I can.

Thanks again Jim.
