December 2008

State of the Bunion 2008

State of the BunionI started this bunion thing last year, and since then I can't say the pussing and the pain has eased to any significant extent.

On the site over the year you'll have seen the addition of a few paltry pages in the sections on getting around, restaurants and attractions. You'll have read my new guff about ra Glesca Patter and seen lots of new social bookmarking experiments dot themselves here and there on the site. As a result of all this heaving and hollering therefore, I've been pulling in thousands of visitors a month, about triple the amount a day more than last year, so I count myself pretty satisfied with the way things have been going.

You'll also have witnessed the birth of our little For the Love of G...lasgow podcast, a venture which has taken up pretty much all of my spare time since August, but thankfully has made all the effort worthwhile in terms of the whack of listeners who've been increasingly interested in what we've had to say each fortnight (they must be mad...).

As for the year outwith the site, have a look at the podcast blog for a good cop / bad cop top ten roundup.

So this is me signing off for 2008. I might squeeze in another episode of the podcast before the year's out, but for now I'd like to wish you all the very best over the festive break and have an even better 2009. When we come back after the break, my intention is to organise my time more so that I'll be able to start writing on the site for at least a few hours a week, and as a result, if by the end of the year the getting around, restaurants and attractions sections still remain incomplete, I'll have no option but to strip myself of all my clothes and run starkers down Buchanan Street on a Saturday afternoon.

(without prejudice to my right not to do that, of course...)

Yours aye,

My site has the festive blues

I think my little Top Ten Glasgow Guide has taken the huff with me.

It might be beceause I've neglected it in the last few months in favour of the sparkly new podcast - no-one likes to be replaced I suppose. Or maybe it's just tired after a hectic year and, like me, is yearning for the Christmas break.

Either way, you might have noticed a few glitches appearing on the site recently. The Navbar on the left of each page seems to be shifting up and down, the space between images and their surrounding words has disappeared, Google adverts have been turning themselves off without any notice, and bookmark buttons have been jumping all over the place.

I'm in the middle of sorting all this and hope to get everything the way it should be at some point soon. Apologies for any disruption in your enjoyment of the site in the meantime.

I'll be signing off soon with my usual State of the Bunion for this year, and hope that if the site's still talking to me in the New Year we'll put this minor episode behind us and get back to building the site at a healthier rate than before.
