Glasgow Airport Glasgow Hotel?

As I alluded to in the main Airport Guide, it's pretty obvious why when they're flying, lots of folks prefer booking a hotel near the airport.

You can normally save a great deal of time & hassle by staying within touching distance.

There are five hotels on the grounds of Glasgow Airport -

The Ramada Glasgow Airport
The Express by Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport
The Holiday Inn
The Travelodge
Premier Travel Inn

However, Glasgow's not the largest of cities, and if I'm being really honest about this I'd have to say that staying in hotels a little further away from the Airport won't cause you too much bother.

Whilst the big five are great if you're doing the whole saving time & hassle thing, I'd suggest that when you're booking a hotel in Glasgow, don't book a Glasgow Airport Hotel unless you fall into one or more of the following categories.

Being close to the Airport will mean that you won't have to worry about having to pack the kids into your chosen transport. You should be able to stroll peacefully to the Terminal, that is if you've set the alarm properly, of course!

However, so are many of the other hotels in Glasgow you'll find dotted about.

I've been in Cities where staying at an airport hotel the night before I fly is an absolute necessity. But that's really only in the massive labyrinths like NYC. You know?

It's like, it's pretty easy to find your way around Glasgow, and you won't have to travel far from the airport if you've picked a central hotel.

So my second reason for booking a Glasgow Airport hotel is if you're only in town for the night.

It really does put your mind at ease, especially if you've been travelling around a lot and just want to make sure you're sorted for the flight back.

For example, the buses run less frequently to the airport in the morning & at night, and unless you've booked a taxi in advance, you might find you're waiting for a little longer than you'd like.

Generally the taxi services in Glasgow are reliable, but what day will you be flying? If it's early morning on the weekend, for instance, the taxis will normally be concentrated in the City Centre for all the party-goers coming out of pubs & clubs. The same goes for late at night, as every night's a social night in this town!

So to cut down on the possibility that you can't get to the airport, just book a room in an airport hotel for the last night of your stay.

Yeah you'd find yourself staying at the airport, but again, you'd be just a short ride to the City Centre and beyond.

You'd also find that the windows in these hotels are pretty thick, so don't worry about waking up at 2am with the sound of a 747 ambling past your bedroom.

Trust me, save your money where you can. Grabbing a good deal at a Glasgow Airport hotel will not dampen your enjoyment of the City - not one bit.

But if you're not offered a free ride by your hotel, cut out the need for it by (yeah once again!) booking the last night of your stay at the airport.

Clearly, you'll have to do a cost-benefit analysis here. If the airport hotel rate is much higher than the one you're staying in, you're probably better getting the bus.

Either way, don't forget to ask about the free transfer - more and more these days City Centre hotels appear to be offering a coach, because that's what tourists expect having been in other places where it's the norm.

Pretty handy & cost-saving if you've rented a car or otherwise want to cut out the cost of dumping it somewhere while you travel.

I'd watch out though, because whilst you'll come across the free parking offer, you might find that the rate for the room is a little higher than you'd expect elsewhere. Airport hotels seem to do this all the time (please correct me if I'm wrong) - they charge a little higher not only because lots of folks need them more than they do other hotels, but also because they offer services like parking you'd pay for elsewhere.

Anywho, this is why you see hotel booking desks at airports all around the world. People do leave it late, for whatever reason. Sometimes, for example, your flight is delayed & you're too late to book into your chosen hotel.

And if you're in Glasgow, you'll be safe in the knowledge that you can book airport hotels from the airport.

Just go over to the desks and pick up the phone.

That said, what I've also noticed these days is that Glasgow is becoming a major conference city. That means that piles of businessmen & women fly in & out in a day or two for conferences, and the airport hotels will be the first to get booked up.

However, the Glasgow Airport hotels have to put up with the same problem as City Centre ones - people cancel last minute.

Bearing that in mind, if you can't find a hotel in the near vicinity of Glasgow, at least remember to take a look nearer the airport, because you never know...

Some folks just prefer this, so if you're one of them, fire away.

So that's it. If you fall into one of the above categories, a Glasgow Airport hotel is for you. If you don't I'd ask yourself why it's necessary to book in there. Trust me, we're all pretty laid back here, so booking further away from the airport may just be a good idea - you might even save yourself a few coins.
